wishing to understand crow
so I could eavesdrop

truck driver and her son
playing in the snow

a nest of swallows
holding up the Interstate
highway repairs

drizzly morning
a lone yellow pear
in the darkness

a mild January
three flecks of white
on the spirea

January's end
the 100-foot Christmas tree
losing its light

MID-JANUARY CLOUDS
First day
in many that
the birdbath water's not
frozen But where are the birds this
morning?

At two,
the birds appeared.
My, my! They must have slept
longer than I did. The snow's gone,
hooray!

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
One-year
festivities
for the president spoiled
by a Congress stalemate causes
shutdown.

The sun's
melting snow from
roofs, but the freezing temp
turns the thaw into icicles
on eaves.

Robin
standing on ice
drinks from a sun-thawed patch
in the birdbath. Temp rising by
mid-day.

three," the online weather
proclaims. In this old house, the temp's
50!
